WoW Cataclysm Preview

Blizzard announced during their annual Blizzcon convention this year, the release of their third expansion for their popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. The expansion will be called WoW Cataclysm, named after the theme that will take central stage across the new campaign, a cataclysm that will wreak havoc across the World of Warcraft as we know it.

The Cataclysm of WoW will completely reshape Azeroth – the original continent that original players of Warcraft grew up in. Much of the areas and scenery that you were accustomed to will be no more. The redesigning of the entire Warcraft original zones will also pave way for the ability to, for the first time, travel across Azeroth with flying mounts.

The other major news from this upcoming expansion, is the introduction of two completely new races to the World of Warcraft. Goblins will join the Horde, and Worgens will be playable for the Alliance. These two new races will each have a wide selection of very powerful racials that will make even the most established of players want to leave their max level characters and start afresh.

WoW Cataclysm wouldn’t be a true expansion if it didn’t see the level cap being raised, and while this time around the max level has only been raised by 5 levels (to level 85), it still will allow players to learn new and more powerful ranks of their favorite spells.

One point of disappointment in terms of WoW Cataclysm features is that the talent trees won’t be expanded as usual, and will remain fixed at the maximum amount of 51 points for each tree. To make up for this though, Blizzard will introduce a new end game talent improving system called The Hall of Champions. This will be a weekly progression method that will unlock more powerful abilities as you progress upon one of the 8 Halls that are up for mastering.

The Hall of Champions feature goes hand in hand with WoW’s newest profession: Archaeology. Archaeology will be a brand new primary profession where players can discover ancient relics and use them to strengthen their character.

World of Warcraft Cataclysm has many other very exciting new features that should excite both the casual and hardcore fans alike. One that has been anticipated for a long time is rated battlegrounds. While Arenas have been a large part of WoW for quite some time now, many felt that WoW Battlegrounds should also see a ladder system for proper competition.

So next time you head into a battleground, be ready to face against a mighty pre-made Guild group that will have no mercy. This ties in with another new feature called Guild Talent trees. It will not be too unlike regular character talent trees except for the fact that each guild will have one and individual player actions throughout the day will determine how much ‘experience’ the Guild will get. Guilds will be allowed to invest their points on improvements in either increased bank space, more gold per mobs killed, reduced repair costs, and a myriad of other interesting power ups.

While WoW Cataclysm doesn’t have a completely new zone as in previous expansions, it more than makes up for it with the sheer amount of new goodies that will be on hand for both new and long term players to try. WoW Cataclysm is expected to be released towards the end of 2010, so it will be a while still until the eager 11 million fan base can experience all this new gameplay.

World of Warcraft Can Harm your Health

10 Ways Wow is Bad for Your Health

You may think that people are being dramatic when they say that games such as World of Warcraft can destroy your health, but there could be more truth to this claim than you realize. World of Warcraft can affect you in many ways simultaneously and even 10 small drains on your health can add up to one big one. Knowing these ten ways World of Warcraft can affect you might make you rethink your gaming habits.

Social Isolation

You surely know people who lose entire days playing World of Warcraft. Maybe you are one of these people. Loneliness can harm your immune system and your sleep patterns, both of which could devastate your health. Even playing with others online lacks real social connection.

Obesity

It may sound like a leap to talk about obesity, but it is not. The chances of being overweight go up with the amount of time spent playing this type of game. It is especially true for teens.

Back Problems

Proper posture is essential to a healthy back and spine. Hours spent hunched over any game will do damage in time. Computer workers get it from poor work practices but gamers can get it just as easily.

Hand And Wrist Problems

Poor positioning and repetitive movements can also harm the fingers, hands, and wrists. Again you probably relate this to computer workers and again it can happen if you are playing too. Having fun does not remove these risks.

Addiction

World of Warcraft addiction may not be taken as seriously as drug or alcohol addiction but it can be detrimental to health. Even if it does not reach a full blown addiction, playing World of Warcraft can easily encroach on the rest of life. A person could play endlessly.

Violence

This argument is dismissed by some and taken very seriously by others. Watching violence desensitizes you to it. It happens to anyone and can have repercussions in the real world.

Eye Strain

Staring at a computer screen for hours on end is not good for your eyes. This is true for the strain of doing it for one day and most gamers do not stop playing after the first day.

Stunted Brain Growth

There have even been studies that excessive gaming can stunt brain growth. While these findings are far from conclusive at this point, it should make you stop and think. At the very least, this game could keep players from more intellectual pursuits.

Headaches

Extended hours playing World of Warcraft causes headaches in many players. These headaches may be mild or may be severe enough to interfere with the rest of life.

Sleep Deprivation

Some players play World of Warcraft so much that they neglect their need for sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness and poor performance in all other areas of life. In addition, this lack of sleep can lead to any number of other health problems.

World of Warcraft can destroy your health. There are so many aspects of one’s health that could be adversely affected that this game must be played responsibly. This is true for all games, of course, but this is one of the most popular, and potentially most dangerous, of the moment.
